What to expect year-round
June - November
WHALE SEASON
Sodwana is graced with both Humpback, as well as, Southern Right whales on their journey between the nutrient-rich southern waters and their tropical calving grounds off of East Africa. These animals can be seen breaching from the beach and heard singing underwater during your dives! You may even be lucky and see one on your safety stop!
October -Â January
TURTLE SEASON
Two species of turtle (the Loggerhead and the Leatherback) utilise Sodwana Bay beaches as their annual nesting grounds. The females make their way onto the shore at night to lay clutches of eggs - up to 120 at a time! This is a very special time of the year as turtle sightings increase and tours can be booked to view hatchings!
December - March*
RAGGED TOOTH SHARK SEASON
A favourite among locals and visitors alike - Raggies pull through during the warmer summer months to gestate. A popular dive site known as "Quarter-mile" is your best chance to see these majestic creatures up close. A must-see for newbies and seasoned divers!
*Raggie dives are subject to availability. The dive site can be open/closed at the parks board's discretion at any time during this period. Please contact us to avoid disappointment.
